• Hyper slow loading after update to 5.0
My website just got slowwer, after updating to 5.0. All plugins ware updated.
I tried anything and it just gets wors in any try to make it faster.
From 99 precent on google page speed for desctop and 78 for mobile I droped to 70 for desctop and 50 for mobile…………. ?!
After updating woocommerce it got even worse.. page load for woocommerce was 12 seconds….. WHAT THE ……..?!

I just rolled back everything and I will not update anything except SEO plugins and thats all until there is stable version…

MAKE IT FAST NOT SLOWER ITS 2018… OLDEST VERSIONS OF WP WARE MUCH FASTER!

That seems odd. Is there a huge improvement with all plugins deactivated? If not, is there a huge improvement if you switch to the Twenty Nineteen theme?

I didnt check. The website is on a client, the theme was updated also….

Ok, please check those things, that’s necessary for troubleshooting the problem.

I’ve noticed this too and I’ve done a brand new test install and it’s far slower than previous versions of wordpress. Not even using any plugins. The design is sleeker but it’s just so clunky to use at the moment. Especially when selecting categories for posts, I find im having to save it and applying categories via the quick edit instead. Originally I thought it might just be the sever even though i’m using a localhost server offline but just now when I went to log into a clients site to update some content which their site is still running series 4 of wordpress the old system is much faster.

To Jeff.. I checked no difference. I downgraded the wbesite to 4.8 and is going fast now and bringed back mu 99 score of gogole pagespeed ?? I dont think to upgrade for now

@mttindustries…. Same here. All my new updated websites are running slower than those on 5.3 Some of them I have tested, upgrading – slow down, after that bringing them back to 4.8 gets the speed back. All sites are with different configurations and plugins…. It cannot be possible on all of them to have same problem in different situations…. Or I have bad luck ?! ??

Which version of PHP are you running?

Have you actually notice slow loading, or are you just going off of the pagespeed score?

    Last version of PHP

I actually noticed the slow loading and then checked to google pagespeed score.

The latest version of PHP that your hosting provider offers is not always the real latest version.

Please install and active the Health Check plugin and let us know exactly what version of PHP is reported: https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/health-check/

@macmanx IT IS the last version and I cnow it ?? I cnow that some providers do not tell the truth, not this one.

Not sure what’s so hard about giving a straight answer on that. Is it 7.3.1? That’s the latest version of PHP.

There are a few small issues with the 7.3.x branch right now. Can you see if there’s any improvement under 7.2.14?

I’ve noticed the same slowdown since upgrading from 4.9.9 to 5.0.3 while using PHP 7.2.14

Upon further review, I noticed yesterday that a new installation of WP 5.0.3 (not an upgrade) was running much faster than my other website which was upgraded and has many more plugins installed.

The culprit may be in the upgrade process or one/more of the plugins (or themes) I have installed.

Although all my plugins are updated, it would be great to know which plugin(s) may be the culprit based on other developers testing experience.

The easiest way to find out which plugin is the culprit is to switch them all off, and if the problem goes away, switch them back on one-by-one. It could also be a theme function, so I also recommend seeing if you still have the same problem under the Twenty Nineteen theme.

If you can install plugins, install Health Check. On the troubleshooting tab, you can click the button to disable all plugins and change the theme for you, while you’re still logged in, without affecting normal visitors to your site.

Thank you for the info, I knew about the Health Check plugin but didn’t realize that it allowed visitors to view the site as it is normally!

@macmanx If I havent checked I would tell… IT HAS THE SAME problem. In older versions of PHP it gets WORSE. I have tried on new instalation, also upgarde of old instalation with no plugins both.. same thing….. I have nothing to say. Not to mention that with numerous plugins I have CPU overload (after turning them off and deletion, the same thing), on two different hosting providers…………… I have issues on more than 10 websites all similar, with different hosting providers and totally different configurations and combinations with plugins and themes.. There is nothings else to say.. Just freaking SLOW and problematic!
