• I realize we can reload the Classic Editor, however, if that version is going to be phased out, I would prefer to learn to use 5.0. I have a few issues though.
    1. I find no way to change the font color for Headers, only for text blocks.
    2. How do you insert a “Read More” tag.

I need more freedom in font/color control, and I can’t have every new post I write show in full length on the blog page – no visitor to my site wants to scroll through the blog page like that.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

1-have you tried out the “more” block? (from layout elements blocks)
2-for the heading block colors-fonts, you can add a custom CSS class in the “advanced” area in the block controls on the left side of the screen.

I am just replying here because I have the same issue. I am wanting to change the color of some of my headers and paragraphs. I can not find it anywhere with this new update.

How do you go about creating a custom CSS class in the advanced area. Cna you breakdown how to do that?

    – Header blocks don’t have color settings yet. That may or may not be in a future update.

    – Paragraph blocks have a background and text color setting area in the right hand sidebar. Select the block by clicking on it, and then the right hand sidebar will show the Block settings.

    – There’s a block called the “More” block which inserts where the Read More break is in your content. Just put that block where you want the break to be.

    – If you need more advanced color controls, for Headers or for individual words in paragraphs, the Classic Block still has those controls. You can add a Classic Block anywhere you like and mix and match between the normal blocks and the Classic Block. You don’t have to go all in with one or the other, they work side by side just fine.

Thank you Otto! I will try those suggestions. Sounds like something I can work with. I must comment that I pray WordPress keeps in mind the base. The point is the blogger. Most of us aren’t Silicon Valley savvy…some probably don’t even know what that means. When you start getting into things that are too technical to use, you will lose people. I don’t even know what CSS is (well, sorta), but I don’t have the time to learn all those extra-techy things that someone who is paying an editor to do for them anyway does. Why not have user friendly, easy to find tools for people who just want to write?
I’m just speaking up for the average Joe here. I don’t have a team running my stuff for me. I am inspired by God to write, whether it’s the middle of the night or whatever, I write. I grab my laptop and go to work. I have learned about WordPress through trial and error and researching on my own. I think many people have been doing it that way too. Go Average Joes! God bless you!

Most of the people who create the software aren’t in Silicon Valley. ??

The block editor is simpler and designed with writing in mind. It’s much less technical than you will expect it to be. I think you will find it so after making a few posts with it.
