Not sure it’s working & Mobile Revolution Slider issues

    Hi,

    I’ve installed this plugin to try and improve site speed by shrinking images to their appropriate sizes. I’m not sure it’s actually doing anything though as speed tests aren’t improving and I’m still getting ‘Properly size images’ suggestions on Page Speed Insights. Is there a way to test that it’s working as it should or am I misunderstanding the plugin’s purpose?

    Also, all of the images still look fine using the plugin, except the homepage slider (which is made using Revolution Slider). It looks fine on a laptop/desktop, but on mobile devices the images look awful. Is there a way to avoid this?

    Hello there, my friend,

    Thank you for your message and for sharing your website url with us. I did take a look at it and it seems that your images are being resized by the Adaptive Images plugin correctly. Take a look at these screenshots, for instance: https://prntscr.com/lwawi9/ and https://prntscr.com/lwawi9/. They show that the cookie that the plugin sets is set correctly and that the delivered image is served resized.

    Now, a word about Pagespeed Insights. This is not a tool that actually “runs” your website like a browser or a user. It simply provides some best practices, but it cannot detect what the plugin does under the hood. One way to reliably detect whether (and how well) the plugin is working is via a tool that uses real browsers. For this I recommend https://webpagetest.org/. There you can test your page with a desktop device and then with a mobile one and see the difference in the overall downloaded size.

    (Of course, you can always do what I showed you above in the screenshots, if you are comfortable with using your browser’s developer tools in responsive web design mode.)

    About the way your website looks in mobile, I guess this has to do more with your theme and the way it handles the layout and the styling. However, if you can be a little bit more specific I might be able to give some further advice.

    Thanks for the advice. The slider images look better now actually. I think when I deactivated and reactivated the plugin it fixed the problem, but my mobile browser cache must have still had the pixelated image saved as it looked better after I cleared it.

    Indeed, mobile browsers do cache content very persistently in order to reduce the consumed bandwidth and the battery energy.
