I’m happy to work with you on this but I’m on holiday for a week from Saturday so may not be able to pick up immediately. The “only on hover” options sounds a good idea as this will enable quick access to a post or page without cluttering up the main menu. By the way, I got a simiar but worse effect with Admin Menu Tree Page View when I tried this as an alternative. However, this works with another website I get involved with but that has far fewer pages. So they probably have a similar problem.

Thanks and A HAppy New Year! Mike

Hello, happy new year! Thank you for working with me to try to resolve the issue.

I prepared a test with posts and pages (about 50~75 each) on the latest version of WordPress, and still wasn’t able to reproduce the issue. The long list of posts in the menu looks OK while editing a post, and the list of pages on hover too. (And vice versa)

Since you mentioned a similar issue with another plugin, I’m wondering if something (a plugin other than this one) could be changing the admin styles to cause it.

Could you see if deactivating all plugins (except this one) to see if the issue still happens?

I realized that the option to show the list only on hover is a bit tricky to implement. Both kinds of lists (open in the menu while editing a post of that post type, and on hover) are created at once, so I’ll need to hide the former with CSS instead of not generating it in the first place. Well, it’s technically possible – so I can try it.
