• hello
yesterday I tried the auto update, but it didn’t work.
at the end of the update process, I ended up with a 500 server error.
    this is the server log:

this is what I have tried to do then:

      deleting the .htaccess file
removing and/or renaming the plugins folder
reinstalling the 2.7.1 version by uploading every file (unless the wp-content folder and the wp-config file, is that correct?)

    nothing of the above worked.
I am still getting the 500 error, as you can see here:

    anyone can help me please?

  • Same here. ??

    Ouch! ??

Which web hosting service are you on? I tried doing auto-update on my yahoo webhosting account and lost at least 50% of the files I had on the server (including those residing in other non-Wordpress directories). I was also locked out of the admin control panel of my webhost and lost all my subdomain customizations. Yahoo tech support managed to restore my account to a previous snapshot but only after much frustration and haggling.

I am hesitating with doing the upgrade again…

I had to up max memory usage to 64M after upgrading to 2.8 to fix the problem. Ouch!

32M was working just fine before the upgrade.

I had the same problem. I had to restore the previous version, still afraid to upgrade to 2.8. I cant up the memory limits ,anyone found a different solution to that problem?

I had total failures on a number of occasions – trying over and over. My problem is that the upgrade just sits there churning away forever and never seems to proceed. Had to do the rename plugin folder to stop it, then got all sorts of fatal errors until I manually upgraded. The automatic upgrade is clearly NOT worth it. I suggest not even trying. The manual process is very time consuming, but seems to be way more reliable.

I found this solution (was specifically for 1and1.com / 1und1.de, but it fixed it): https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/242753

I upgrade manully, auto upgrade is not reliable and too slow
