Got a message from my hosting provider a few hours later:

It appears that the plugin “bulk-image-alt-text-with-yoast” is maxing out your CPU usage and making your website unusable.

We had to deactivate the plugin “bulk-image-alt-text-with-yoast” in order to fix the issue which it was making.

    Dear Joe Bloggs,

    Thank you for your patience.

We might know why you have experienced this issue.

Bialty replaces alt tags “on the fly” while using a search/replace function via php. Which means that the changes are not saved in database. That’s why we mentioned on our description page that alt texts are not visible inside your editor or media library (only on front-end).

It could explain some CPU usage when performing this function

However, this function, which requires very low CPU usage, should never impact your global CPU performance to this point… unless your have a very limited hosting server (i.e. shared hosting).

No matter what you do, we would recommend to upgrade your hosting server or contact your hosting provider to greater your hosting plan. It will probably help you get also better performance on loading.

    Hope this help.

Once again, thank you for contacting our support.

    Regards
