• After upgrading from 2.7.1 to 2.8, all of the text widgets in my banner and sidebar have disappeared, also I have one text widget now labeled “Text 1” and when I go to edit it, it says “There are no options for this widget.” Also, there is only one text widget now, so I can only have one.

I had a bit of html and other code in text widgets and now they’re gone, and I can’t add them back since the upgrade.

Basically, I need a working Text widget and the ability to have more than one would be nice too.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks!

Update: I have regained functionality by installing “Better Text Widget”, but the built in functionality is still messed up.

You can only use WP 2.8 compatilbe widgets, and there are very few widgets that are compatible with WP 2.8 at this time.

I was under the impression the text widget was built into WordPress. I do have it working again, but I had to install a plugin to do so.

The Better Text Widget is marked as compatible up to 2.7.1, but it does seem to work in 2.8.

I hesitate to mark this as resolved…

Problem is resolved. Plugin author is to blame for not updating plugin already. WP 2.8 is in beta phase for more than a month, there was plenty of time for that.

Has anyone discovered an answer to this problem ?

Fresh install and text widget not working… Version 2.8.2… When attempting to edit, it says “There are no options for this widget”.

What can I do to fix this? Never had a problem with earlier versions!

Mm…educate me. Who produces the widgets that we use in WP? WordPress? Third parties?

gone for me too and nothing official from the WP guys… what gives?

text widget is present on wordpress.com how come it’s not for installs?

    Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem. If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-related problems.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin. Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.

    – reading https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/279132

I’ve done all of the above and still nothing.

I have another install on a different subdomain and the Text Widget is present and I have no idea why.

I can’t tell whether this is the same problem I’m having at my blog:

    https://www.othersidegroup.com/adcomments

My sidebar content is pushed to the bottom, and the body content expands the width of the page. All of my plugins are up-to-date.

This same issue occurs when I switch themes as well (although I’m using and have been using Tarski, which I’ve also updated). In fact, it’s even more messed up in some other themes. Not the theme.

I have: deactivated all plugins and taken off all but one widget (text, used for testing).

I have no clue what the problem is. It doesn’t look like it’s in the list mentioned above.

And, i just posted a new post, when you visit that new post, the test TEXT widget is now in the appropriate place in the sidebar, but it is not if you go to any other post (written before upgrade).

(Please let me know if I should start a new thread on this, I’m just not sure what my particular problem is and this seemed closest to what it looks like).
