Social Menu Twenty Seventeen Theme

  • unfortunately I am working on localhost so I cannot provide a url, but I created a child theme off of the Twenty-Seventeen theme. I haven’t changed anything in the footer so far, and I am looking for a way to move the social menu above the widgets. Everytime I do this however the icon and menu as a whole will not appear. Right now I have a text widget in footer 1, and a google map in footer 2. the google map is pushing the social menu far below the text widget in footer 1. I can’t find a way to push the social menu above to be beside the map in footer 2 widget area so the only thing I can think of doing is placing the social menu above the widgets.

  • I would try, in the maps widget, to surround the maps HTML with a max-width div like this:

    <div class="google_maps_is_too_wide_on_my_site">
// the maps code goes here
</div>

    Then add this example CSS:

    .google_maps_is_too_wide_on_my_site {
max-width: 600px;
display: block;
margin: 1em auto;
padding: 0.5em;
}

    Test the max width at full screen until it fits it’s container and apply @media rules as needed for smaller screens, adjust margin and padding as needed to the new div.

    nope did not work. The footer.php file has the social nav below the widgets so the social nav will always be below the tallest widget. I want the social to be above the widgets or at least come up to be directly under widget 1 (beside widget 2 with its height). Only if I alter the footer.php file to have it place the social above the widgets then the whole thing gets screwy.

    I figured out how to resolve my issue. I implemented a CSS grid and put the social nav to be in the top row, and setting the row to only be the height of the social icons, while assigning the widgets to the 2nd row.
