• I want to install WP at the existing host for my web site. My host says the web server currently has PHP version 4.3.2 and MySQL version 5.8. HOWEVER – mod_rewrite is disabled for security reasons. Will having mod_rewrite disabled cause any installation problems?

Thanks Samboll. What are the disadvantages of not being able to use pretty permalinks. Will people feel less inclined to use links to my posts? I’m a newbie and am not clear on this.

I do not see it makes any difference at all – others say google does not like them as much for seo rankings
I suppose research it yourself if this is important to you

most web hosting provider offer mod_rewrite. I personally use Chime Web Hosting for web hosting and i don’t have that problem. Hopefully, you are not paying too much for hosting and still not getting mod_rewrite. Mod_rewrite will come in handy for search engine optimization big time.
