Feedback status has changed

    Over the last couple days I have started getting a number of alerts like this one:

    system Feedback status has been changed (details):
    ID: 4804, Old status: new, New status: spam, Title: MatthewBlary – 2019-01-08 10:33:33

    They will come in bursts of a few within a few minutes. Then another burst an hour or so later. The title will change after a few times along with the IP it is coming from.

    I couldn’t find anything related to this on the forum here so I wanted to see what someone says.

  • Someone is using a feedback form that’s embedded somewhere in your website to send spam. The change of IP address may indicate that the offender is using either a proxy to mask their real location. And the change in the title may just be a way for them to mark which batch of requests are resulting in successful attempts.

    It is up to you to decide what to do with the information that the plugin is sending. You can either install an additional plugin to block or filter these requests, or place a web application firewall in front of your website to take care of this and other type of attacks.

    Thanks. I didn’t even realize I had that enabled. I have gone ahead and disabled it.
