• I have just upgraded to the latest version of word press editor – some what reluctnely beause i know there are going to be changes that i am going to have to learn on top of writing my content.

now i have a problem with inserting links in to the post text… i notice the editior seems to have a visual and a code windows like the last one but the buttons are now in a menu on the right side… s

in the past it simple meant i highlighted the text i wanted to creat a link, went to the top menu selected insert link, click on the cog.. insert the link into the URL spot and tick open in a new page.. and click save….

in the past version – this would then leave link under line under the text in the visual editor and i would then hit update and view the page and the link is there..

NOW.. since up grading.. i go through the same profiles and hit update on the bottom of the link window.. it does so and then closes.. and the link window with the apply button is empty and there is no link line under the text… when i view the page in website there is no link…. i got back and follow the insert process.. still noithing? now i wish i had not upgraded … grrr…why is it not working?

Hi, you should install previous editor from plugin install, its called classic editor.
I just installed it cos of a visual warning message bug.

The new editor is messy, hope they fix it.

I’ve seen this same complaint a few times, but I’m not sure what the issue is. The link functions work much the same in the new editor as they did in the old one. You can use the link icon or just paste the link on top of the text you want to be linked.

Here’s a quick video showing both methods:

I too have been frustrated regarding setting links with what appears to be a “half n half” of the “old wp” as opposed to the “new wp”… the above video is fine (thank you) – but my option to “open in a new link” is NOT the same as presented above (I wish it were) [ I have what appears to be an “old” site], ie my edit button [next to the “apply” button, opens in a window which allows me to check (tick) the “open in a new tab” (again NOT hard to do) BUT when I click out and save my work, the link does NOT open in a new tab… when I check the box – its not ticked (BUT, I am!!!). that said sometimes it works (don’t know how?) but most of the time it does not!

Somewhere over the rainbow (sic) is an anomaly with the new wp that no one has picked up on!
its a shame, sad and extremely frustrating to work with a new program that appears to not support previous functions!!! [ and I am putting it mildly].

    Any takers please?
    sincerely
    Bruce
