I second pbwordp re: cross-browser testing and distracting background. Also would be helpful to see the site on a variety of monitors. I can see how the background might not seem like such a huge issue on a 1024 x 768 (except for the footer, which is kind of overwhelming), but on a 16:9 screen, that background takes over like a Pinochet.
(This all comes from a painter first, and a designer second. I totally understand how tempting it is to use your pieces to do all the design work on the site – have to fight that urge myself. However, it’s hard to see the furniture if it blends with the wallpaper.)
Also, I like the idea of a random gallery image as your first large image, but it needs to be smaller and not split by the fold. It’s kind of a bad scene to land on a site and have to scroll right away just to see the first image, let alone the rest of the first page.
