Can I remove “META” from sidebar?

Hi all!

I’m trying to set my new blog up and I’m wondering if I can remove the “META” links (Site Admin/Logout/Valid XHTML/etc.) group that’s in the sidebar without doing any damage? I don’t want visitors to see that stuff.

I found the code for it in the appearance editor but I figured I’d better ask before I do something I might regret. ??
