• Hello! This plugin is exactly what I need! Unfortunately, I noticed that the newest update is interfering with comment threading. I have enabled threading up to 3 deep but when I have the comment enabled, it does zero threading. Any ideas?

Hi, any thoughts on this? I worked with WordPress support to confirm that it is this plugin that is causing the threading to not work. I’d really love to have both load comments with a button and threading if possible!

    Hey @anastasiab,

Are you using any third party comment system or the default WP comment system?

Hello, we are using the default WP comment system and we don’t have any other comment plugins running other than Lazy Load.

Just to confirm – Lazy Load for Comments is the only comment plugin we are using.

Here is a list of plugins we are running in case it might help:
    Akismet Anti-Spam
    AMP (by WordPress)
Glue for Yoast SEO & AMP
    Instagram Feed
    Jetpack by WordPress.com
    Mailchimp Forms by Optin Cat
    Redirection
    SiteOrigin Widgets Bundle
    WP User Avatar
    Yoast SEO

Hi there, just checking in to see if there’s any news on this. Any ideas why the Lazy Load plugin would cause problems with comment threading?

When I disable Lazy Load, threading works, and when I enable Lazy Load, threading does not work. So the problem is definitely the Lazy Load plugin.

    Hey @anastasiab,

Sorry for the delay. I think you have enabled JetPack. Correct? I could see that there is a conflict with JetPack comments. I will see what we can do for this.

Same here. The form is not moved under the comment to be answered and the comment is not saved as a reply. It worked until 19th February – maybe WordPress 5.1 changed something?

I use the standard form (only minor adjustments, classes are the same and it worked before) and no JetPack or similar…

//Edit: After deactivating and reactivating the plugin, it doesn’t work anymore. I need to delete and reinstall the plugin, but then only the GIF is displayed – if I use the button it shows “Error occurred while loading comments. Please reload this page”…

That’s really interesting. You’re seeing the same problem without Jetpack? So that rules out Jetpack as the cause. Thank you for replying, that seems very helpful information.

Is there support or even a solution?

    Hey all,

Thank you for the information. I’m still debugging this. Will push an update soon.

    Update:

There are some major changes in comments section of WP 5.1. There is also a core ticket created for the related issue here – https://core.trac.www.ads-software.com/ticket/46260

    I will keep you updated.

Does this only affect the comment threading or also the “Error occurred while loading comments. Please reload this page” error? Is there any way I can create logs that help?

Hey @marcelismus: Can you update to the latest version and check?

@anastasiab: Can you disable the Jetpack comments for now? Jetpack is overriding all other comments functionality, and it’s not easy to re-initialize their script after lazy loading the comments. It required some effort to implement the compatibility with Jetpack comments. So, I will work on it when I get some free time ??

Even with version 1.0.8 I only get the error message “Error occurred while loading comments. Please reload this page”… ??

Thanks for keeping an eye on this, Joel! I’m going to leave Jetpack comments on for now because the click to load comments button is working and that’s what I really need with this plugin. Looking forward to whatever fix you are able to come up with. ??
