Function which creates folders for images?

  • Hi,
    could somebody please tell me which function takes care of storing images into specific folders(created by year and month) inside the wp-content folder? Actually I want to insert images from a separate php file outside the wp core wherein images will be stored from external images sources? Is that possible?

    is it the functions.php file of a particular template which takes care of the above mentioned functionality? i need somebody’s help please.
