I have had plugin active for over a year with no issues and amazing results, just logged a few minutes ago and updated to 1.7.6 … After update when any videos on site are clicked, the thumbnail flashes but video will not play, when clicked for second time API starts to play video. What I am also finding strange is I used the Impress. org plugin “WP RollBack” to revert to previous version of YT Lyte, cleared site cache and YT Lyte cache but same problem remains.

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

As more info. I have tested on mobile, mobile working fine, one click to play. Also tested on Firefox desktop, also working fine. Still having the double click issue on Google Chrome desktop browser.

Strange; just tested in FF & Chrome on desktop and in both cases the Randy Rhoads video plays with just one click for me?

Moreover nothing changed in the JS part of the plugin (which takes care of the actual switch from the “dummy” player to a playing YouTube video), so -as confirmed by the rollback not fixing things- this unlikely to be due to the update.

I am in a WP Facebook group where I posted the issue, many have followed my lead in praising Youtube Lyte as a must have plugin, many in the group now have YT Lyte active on their sites. Some have come back in the comments to confirm Google Chrome taking two clicks to play video on their sites as well. I also found myself on Frank Goossens’ blog where the “Rufus Wainwright” video embed lays and the same error persist for me when trying to view it in Google Chrome. I have played with advanced setting in GC with no luck. Wish I had more know how to contribute in rectifying.

Yes, I agree issue is not due to update of YTL. I test functionality of players each time plugin updates and each time all was fine until last update, I have not changed any settings in Google Chrome since installing YTL over a year ago so it must be some recent change in Google Chrome. I’m pretty sure visitors to my site are few using GC and most would be persistent in clicking twice to view a video but still leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

Remains the fact that it works in Chroms for me without having to click twice, weird! :-/

    some additional questions:
    * when clicking play the first time, do you see any changes to the player? on the developer tools network tab do you see requests to youtube?
    * what’s the user agent of your browser?
    * do you see any relevant message on the browser console when clicking play the first time?

Clicking first time: Player goes black, preloader starts to spin then low res image reappears and player looks normal as when post first loads. All of this happens in about 0.3 seconds. In developer tools network tab (something I’ve never attempted before, sorry I’m a beginner) I click play button and the same as above happens visually, in the network tab there is a lot of activity, when I hover over embed-player-js it shows request sent 0 User Agent = Chrome 72 on Windows 8.1 … Only two console messages = JQMIGRATE: Migrate is installed, version 1.4.1 Autoptimize & Element does not exist in DOM! OK, so the problem is with autoplaying the YT video upon loading it as confirmed in e.g. https://www.theverge.com/2018/3/22/17150870/google-chrome-autoplay-videos-sound-mute-update

Now I’ve made a small change in LYTE on my own blog which _might_ fix the problem, can you test if autoplay now works on my blog (Frank Goossens, that’s me)?

Confirmed: One click to play video on your blog page.

and before it was 2 as well, right?

    Thread Starter shirtguy72

    (@shirtguy72)

Correct: I tested the “Rufus Wainwright” video before your fix and it took 2 clicks. After fix you mentioned “Rufus Wainwright” video plays in my Google Chrome with a single click. After fix you mentioned on “Rufus Wainwright” video, I found another video on your blog and tested, the other video took 2 clicks.

Frank, shortly after my previous reply I again tested the “Thom Yorke” video on your blog, it is now playing with a single click.

Also just tested your post page /category/rss-able/general/langnl/ seems you added the fix site-wide. All three videos on this post play on 1st click in Google Chrome with no issues.

OK, added to fix to the Github version, can you download that here and test on your site?

I have the same problem but on mobile (both Firefox and Chromium).
After the play button on the thumbnail has been pressed I get the standard youtube interface where I have to press the real play button once again.

Tried the github version and there was no change… not sure it matters but I haven’t added an API key (and probably won’t add because of reasons)…

The problem also exists in the responsive mode in both the desktop versions of Firefox and Chromium (and by Chromium on the desktop I mean the Iridium browser which is based on it (in case it matters)) mostly on lower resolutions… for example if I choose iPhone 6/7/8 as a device it doesn’t work, but when I choose iPad in Chromium it works (doesn’t work on Firefox but there it works with the Kindle Fire HDX option)…

I suppose you’re caching thumbnails locally? If so, disable that and LYTE will be default load the full YT embed when on mobile to prevent the behavior you describe (which is due to the fact that YT does not allow embedded video’s to autoplay on mobile).

    hope this helps,
    frank
