Please make Gutenberg the exception and not the rule
-
Automattic will not lose face by admitting that the experiment with Gutenberg was a good try. We got to see the differences between Gutenberg and the Classic Editor. So many people are unhappy with Gutenberg. Please restore the Classic Editor as the default and make Gutenberg a core files plugin that can be either activated or deleted, like Hello Dolly and Akismet.
It really isn’t a matter of the majority simply not wanting to try something new. Many of us have tried it. It’s just not easier to deal with that the Classic Editor. As a college instructor who teaches WordPress, my students were far more confused by Gutenberg than they were with the Classic Editor that reminded them of Microsoft Word or Google Docs. I teach interface design, as well, and one of the best practices of interface design is to “make it familiar so people feel like they’re being successful.”
It would be really nice if Automattic would pay attention to the majority and switch the editors. Make the Classic Editor the default, and make Gutenberg the option.
