Since there is an FAQ about not working with the Gutenberg block editor yet, I wanted to post my experience making it work in WordPress 5.0.3 in case it’s helpful to others.

There is a code block that can be used. I put the code in there and then open the Advanced menu in the right sidebar. I fill in the Additional CSS Class field with “language-type” and it’s good to go.

Thanks Doug, I will update the docs/readme to reflect this information.

It would be nice if this plugin ads a dropdown box to the advanced menu and allow us to select a language there for the code block.

That would be amazing to have.

Hey Shaun, yep that definitely is on the to-do list. Thanks for the feedback.

    Oh that’s great.

Would you recommend that I wait for that feature before I start using the plugin extensively within my websites or should I just go ahead and use it now?

Because I’m in the process of converting all my code blocks over to your plugin

Totally your call. I try to update the plugins with each major WP update but it sometimes takes longer depending on schedule. Adding a dropdown to the Classic Editor is gonna be much easier than adding to Gutenberg Block Editor simply due to the added layer of JS complexity. So it’s on the list and will be added as time allows, etc.

Okay thanks. I look forward to this feature.

Thanks for this info! For reference, if useful for others like me who are starting to poke around with the plugin, here is the full list of available language classes in Prism.js: https://prismjs.com/#supported-languages

Update! The next version of Prismatic includes new Gutenberg Blocks and TinyMCE buttons for adding code snippets directly to posts. Should be available soon ??
