I have searched all over the web, including this website and people keep seeming to have the same problems I do, and no one knows how to solve it. I figured I would ask and see if I got any responses.
I want to use password protection for some of my entries, so that those who have the password can enter it and then are able to read the post.
Well, I thought that you just enter a password to use and then publish the entry. However, when I do this, the password box apears in my blog. You then enter the password and hit the button, and the page simply refreshes…and the box asking for a password is still there…it doesnt log you in to view the blog entry.
I would REALLY love to be able to password protect some of my blog entries…so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

  • Hey Becca,
I saw your last post on Purple Lemonade – I hope you stick with it for more than 2 days. It’ll start to make sense. ??
In regards to the password protect posts not being shown:

I have no idea. I’m still pretty new with the system myself.

yea I saw that post about the password protection stuff not being shown….I was hoping it was something else and I wouldnt have to reinstall word press. ?? I guess I’ll have to though and see if it works……
and for the custom fields thing…I tried using that plug-in but yet again it was being funky.
I guess I’ll try re-installing WP though…do I need to delete everything completely?

Delete all the files except the wp-config.php, index.php, and wp-layout.css files. Then reupload everything else.

    what about the database?

The database is just fine – your deleting files won’t upset it at all.
    For future use though:

I’m wondering if its your index.php file that’s modified incorrectly. Can you try using the default index.php (and wp-layout.css) files to help narrow that down?

Hey becca, i have had some install problems my self and still have some problems that i can live with until i figure out what they really do. But anyway i did have to erase that database information and upload everything to get it to work right. If you are like me and have a www page and want to add in WP to your site keep your css page and your index.html page of your site. but get ride of the css and index from WP. Basicly just start over and get rid of everything wordpress and start a fresh reload.

    It works from here ??
Both links show the same thing.

    ^^ what do you mean.
the password is simply = ‘password’
my problem is with the password protected part refreshing and showing up. (read the entire thread)

Before sending me to read you could just make a simple search – as I did now for you:

    no need for apologies ??
I am glad if it helped!

so where do tell does a post that was unknowingly password protected go? will anyone including the author ever see it again if this feature is messed up? i really would love to retrieve my submission and believe me, i will never exercise the “password protection” plan/[plug in drama again. looking and searching for orginal post please advise ….:rocky mountain love
    thanks so much.
