When the favicon is added to mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, Samsung Galaxy, etc) it opens like a web app, which is actually great, except that there are no navigation options (back button, etc) and when you open a link off of one of the webpages that goes to an external link it opens Safari (or equivalent) but when you hit the “back to (webapp)” button in the top left it takes you back to the original homescreen in the webapp not where you left off. Can anyone help?

    Hi,

This behavior is normal, but you are right, sometimes this is just not what you want.

To change this, you need to generate your favicon again (ie. in your WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance > Favicon, and start the process again). Once on RealFaviconGenerator, in the “Favicon for Android Chrome” panel, click the “Options” tab. Select the “Browser” mode (instead of “Standalone”, which is the default).

Now your webapp manifest, generated along with your icons, asks the browser to behave, well, like a browser ??

To test this on your phone, you first need to remove the existing “added to home screen” shortcut. And make sure to refresh your site in Chrome to make sure you are using the latest version.

Please let me know if this solves the issue.

    Regards,
    Philippe
