How to show the authors image beside the article excerpt (Magazin style theme)

I need to show the authors picture beside the articles owned by him.

This should happen on the start page in a magazin style theme, e.g. mimbo, with different columns (leftcol, rightcol, feature, sidebar)

I add a new custom meta field to the authors profile. The value is the URL to his picture.
Now Im looking for a solution to show my new custom field value from the authors meta data beside the article title, excerpt and link.

Any hint?

(I know about the other way to use the article custom fields, and to add the authors Image URL information there.I think this is overgunned, because I have to do so every time a new article is written, for the same URL to the same authors picture. I try to make the things a litte bit easier.)
