Display Checkbox List Value in PDF

Hello,
I am trying to display checkbox list value.
The code for all regular fields works perfectly. Here is what I use:
<?php echo $fields[eventmenunotes][‘value’];?>

For checkbox list the same code shows only text “Array”.
Can someone tell me the right way of doing it so It displays selected options in the PDF?
