• I’ve been trying to set up my blog with YouTube and have been running into problems. I’ve followed YouTube’s instructions and selected “WordPress self-hosted” entered my user name, password, API-URL (https://rock-prog.org/xmlrpc.php) and APIKey from my WordPress.com account. I’ve even followed the suggestion not to add a WordPress.com API Key as it does not link to my self-hosted blog (there is no API Key attached to my User Profile in my self-hosted account).

This is always the result: “An error has occurred. Message: Unknown”

No matter what I do, I can’t get YouTube and my blog to link up. I know that this topic has been covered before, I’ve read previous threads on the topic. But there must be something I’m doing that’s quite wrong.

Make sure that you enable XML-RPC on the Settings->Writing page. It defaults to disabled.

    Few other tidbits:
-You don’t need an API key.
-If you use Youtube to post directly into your blog like this, you’ll need the YouTube Brackets plugin to make it recognize what YouTube sends to your blog.

I have XML-RPC enabled. Still not working.

I’ve now got the brackets plug-in installed and I’ve disabled and enabled XML-RPC, hoping it would reset it in some way. Still no luck.

Hmm. I dunno. I just tried it on my site, and it worked for me. No special setup. Your API URL is correct. Only thing I can think of is wrong username/password.

It’s the same username/password I use to connect to my blog every morning. I’ll keep trying. UPDATE: I created a new site administrator and a new password and then tried to add my blog. Still nothing.

Cliff is having the same trouble I’m facing. Did you ever figure it out? How? I’ve been two full days at it trying everything–the bracket plugin, etc. Like you, YouTube won’t even let me add my blog. Did you get it to work finally? WHY is it apparently simple to put YouTube on the FREE WordPress.com service and we WHO ARE PAYING for the service at www.ads-software.com can’t get the same features? Please shed what light you can. With thanks.
