• Hi, I want to remove the dates from the permalinks on my blog. If I go into settings and click on “post name” will this change all my previous permalinks or just new ones which I create?

If it changes all of the old ones, what is the best way to go about getting redirects to the new URLs? Will I need to go into each post and type in some code to set the redirection up?

    Thanks
    Annabel

    >> Change in permalink will reflect on complete website, so yes all your previous permalinks will be changed.

    >> No, once you change the permalink, url’s will get updated the way you select in backend and you don’t need to add any external code for redirection.

    Hope this helps.

    Hi Annabel

We had the same issue a while back and here is the solution we found:

Go to Settings -> Permalinks and choose “Post name”.

All your existing URLs will change and most likely already redirect to the new URL.

If they don’t redirect you need to use a plugin like https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/redirection/ or https://yoast.com/wordpress/plugins/seo/ (You need Premium here to do redirects)

The first one (free) is good because you can import from .csv format.

It is very important for SEO that you redirect all your domains, so please don think lightly on that task ??

Feel free to message me if you need any help or have any questions.

    /K

@kristofferfable, Thanks for the help, I just have to ask you not to use signatures or link back to your site.

Thanks for your replies. I have read about adding htaccess code as a better option than a plug in but I’m not sure how I go about implementing this. Does anyone have advice on this please?
