• I wanted a plugin for a very simple case, to make my general post page (the “blog” page) have different widgets than the individual posts themselves. This turned out to be tremendously complicated, since when you try and create a condition based on pages, the two special “posts” and “front” pages are omitted. So instead of having the general posts page be an exception and everything else the norm, you have to make the one posts page the norm and then make exceptions for everything else.

Also, though this is becoming more of the norm, I take a very dim view to plugins which promise you the world, then when you install them they say “oh, sorry, all this is only if you pay”. If you promote a feature on the page for the version people download, then include that feature on the version that they are downloading. Bait and switch is getting old.

Final disposition, uninstalled and went with “Widget Context” plugin. It does what I wanted easily, and is open source.

    Hi,

I’m sorry to hear you had a bad experience!

It sounds like there might’ve been some plugin conflicts since it is indeed possible to display widgets on the blog and front page. All features in the description are of course included unless stated otherwise.

If you ever decide to give Content Aware Sidebars another shot, don’t hesitate to open a support thread with any question here: https://www.ads-software.com/support/plugin/content-aware-sidebars/

    Your feedback is much appreciated.

    Joachim
