    Hello team,

I am currently experiencing some troubles with my website. Therefore, I am thinking about moving my RSS Feed to my media hosts generated RSS FEED (buzzsprout). What is all involved in this process? Is there a way to do it in a way that will allow me to keep my current subscribers? If I ever wanted to move back to using my rss feed with powerpress, is this possible? Also how would show notes (which are currently my word press posts) transfer?

I would greatly appreciate your help with this.

    Thanks

This page shows how to do the redirect yourself by editing the .htaccess file on your WordPress site:
    https://create.blubrry.com/manual/syndicating-your-podcast-rss-feeds/changing-your-podcast-rss-feed-address-url/

Alternatively, there is a free plugin called Redirection that makes creating these types of redirects pretty easy and doesn’t require you to manually edit the .htaccess file.

There is also a free services we provide called https://www.podcastmirror.com if you just wnat your feed on a different service to alleviate traffic to your website.

    Hey Shawn and Angelo,

thanks as always for the super fast replies. I am not a coder so I dont feel too comfortable messing with my actual files. How does this redirect work? If I ever lose / take down the site would this redirect still work?

Thanks for the amazing support. Really appreciate your time and help.

It’s generally recommended that you leave the redirect in place for at least 30 days in order for all of your current subscribers to pick up the redirect and carry over to the new feed URL.

    Alright sweet.

So do you think using the recommended plug in is the way to go? What are the chances that it will break my feed?

Would I now need to submit the buzzsprout feed to apple podcasts and google podcasts and then do the redirect?

    Thanks for the great support

Redirecting the feed URL shouldn’t break anything, as long as you create the redirect correctly. If you use the Redirection plugin, just make sure that when you enter your new feed URL, that feed URL is correct. Redirecting to an incorrect URL could cause big problems, unless you catch the mistake right away.

You shouldn’t need to resubmit your feed anywhere. Most syndication platforms like Apple Podcasts, etc. will pick up the redirect and update themselves to use the new feed URL automatically.

    Hey Shawn,

    Thanks for the help.

So I contacted Buzzsprout. The support person on their side doesn’t understand how I have been using buzzsprout as my media host, but then creating my podcast feed with powerpress. So what I have been doing is using powerpress to create my feed and then I use the mp3 link from buzzsprout to embed the episode in my podcast feed wordpress post using powerpress.

I followed this video when setting all this up

    ttps://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cCG8e6SN67s

They show how to do this at 32:25min.

How can I explain all this to the Buzzsprout support? I have always had all my episodes uploaded in Buzzsprout first, and then I embeded them using powerpress. So I dont think I would need to migrate any data to powerpress since I never used the Blubrry hosting right? All I would need is the redirect from my powerpress created podcast rss feed to my buzz sprout rss feed? I am guessing the directories will then use my buzzsprout show descriptions?

Sorry for all the confusing questions. I hope this makes sense, and I truly value your great customer support.

You are correct. All you need to do at this stage is just redirect the PowerPress-generated feed URL to the Buzzsprout feed URL. Buzzsprout doesn’t need to do anything on its end. (Provided your Buzzsprout feed is working and valid, etc.)

    Awesome! Thanks Shawn.

One more thing. So currently my wordpress podcast rss feed has different episode descriptions (show notes) than what is in my buzzsprout rss feed. Will this cause any issues?

    Thanks

That won’t cause any problems. However, once the redirect is in place, the descriptions in the Buzzsrpout feed are what everyone will see. All the redirect does is tell subscribers where the new feed is, and then change their subscriptions to use the new URL.

People sometimes confuse this, thinking that redirects “transfer information” from one location to another. But, they don’t. So, if you’re unhappy with the current state of your episode descriptions in the Buzzssprout feed, you’ll need to update the descriptions on Buzzsprout.

    Hello @maxlwie,

I am sure you are aware, but you could switch from Buzzsprout to Blubrry, migration is free and includes free support. This approach you can leave everything as you have it. Best part of switching to Blubrry is you get to monetarily support the team that is providing you support for your podcast like this help thread here. Plus if you ever need it, Blubrry provides free phone and scheduled video conference support.

    Good luck,
    Angelo

    Hey team,

does powerpress still have the built-in setting for feed redirects? I am hoping to set up the redirect asap. I found anothwr website that descripes the process of moving away from powerpress.

    It stated
“If you host your own podcast using Blubrry PowerPress, you can follow these instructions to set up a feed redirect:

    Log in to WordPress admin.
    Select PowerPress, then Settings.
Under Advanced Options, enable Custom Podcast Channels.
    Click Save.
In the PowerPress menu, you can now select the Podcast Channels option.
In the list of channels, hover over your podcast and click Edit.
    Click the iTunes tab.
Check the iTunes New Feed URL option and provide your Pinecast RSS feed URL (you can find this on your Pinecast podcast dashboard).
    Click Save Changes.”

Is this still a valid setting? Or is the best way to truly set up a redirect using the Redirection Plug-In?

I am new to this forum and Podcasting so bear with me if I sound like a newbie. I have found an obstacle to free Podcasting; the obstacle is Free. Is this a solution to Recording and HOSTING a Podcast or do I have to purchase a Hosting Plan?

@nasmu: Please start new threads instead of adding your questions on to existing threads.

Blubrry provides a free WordPress plugin for generating podcast feeds but Blubrry does not provide free media hosting services.

@maxlwie: It is technically possible create a redirect of an existing PowerPress-generated feed by entering the URL of the feed you’d like to redirect to into the Podcast Mirror URL field of PowerPress settings. This, however, isn’t the best solution, as the redirect will stop working if you deactivate PowerPress.

It’s much better to edit your site’s .htaccess file following the steps shown here:
    https://create.blubrry.com/manual/syndicating-your-podcast-rss-feeds/changing-your-podcast-rss-feed-address-url/

Alternatively, there’s a free plugin called Redirection that makes it pretty easy to create 301 redirects without manually editing your .htaccess file.
