Detect if user is logged in

I am working on a members only site where the smart slider 3 acts as a welcoming page with link to the log in page. Is there a way for smart slider 3 to detect whether or not a user is logged in ?
Is there a custom javascript solution or similar that can be used to check ?
I would like to either swap slider or change layer content based on the user logged in status. I am using Ultimate Member as the “main system”
Any help or pointers would be gratefully appreciated.

Are you using our slider as a shortcode? We have some advanced shortcode options and one of these are, that you are able to show your slider to only logged in or logged out users:

just add a logged_in and a 0 or 1 parameter to your shortcode.
