I see a lot of posts about gray boxes instead of images, but am not sure any of them apply to my situation. None of the images appear in any template I install, just gray placeholders. (That is, in templates where thumbs are meant to appear.) The full-size images do appear in the articles themselves, no problem there.

I haven’t decided on a template yet and my three posts are just placeholders. Is there an obvious solution, or would it be simpler just to reinstall WordPress?

The link below is a screengrab of the template currently installed. I’ll probably leave the project at that. No sense proceeding till this is fixed. However, the template shown probably won’t be my eventual final choice.

  • Do you have each of those images set as the featured image in the post editing screen?

Thanks, that was it. I guess when I originally uploaded them, I overlooked setting each as Featured image.

For the benefit of other newbies:
    1. Do NOT mess with functions.php. At least not in this situation. The advice I found online, saying to add a line of code starting with add_theme_support must have been about something else. That’s not even PHP code is it? Anyway, it broke the whole blog. Reverting to the original fixed that.
    2. View the post. Click Edit. In the right-hand panel, click the Document tab. Click Featured Image in the list, then Set Featured Image, and either replace the current image, or choose it from your library. Remember to click UPDATE. There may be other formatting concerns, but that worked well enough for me. Probably self-explanatory from that point.

The “page I need help with” link in my original post has since been changed. I can’t figure how to edit my original post, or I’d delete the link. Sorry for any confusion. See the screen shots posted.
