• Hello everyone.. first timer here, complete n00b and all, so thank you in advance for your kindness – i see a lot of topics of the sort around, but there seems to be something crucial i’m missing.

I am trying to set up wordpress (!) as part of a site i’m running on dotster. I got WP installed throught the “automatic” install Dotster offers (they have WP preinstalled as part of their vault)(*), but whatever modifications i try to apply, i encounter errors of this type. This is the message I got while trying to upgrade to the newest version, as suggested on the wp-admin page :

Warning: ftp_rawlist(): open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp) is not within the allowed path(s): (/usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps:/usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/tmp) in /usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/14599/htdocs/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-ftpext.php on line 203 Warning: ftp_rawlist(): Unable to create temporary file. Check permissions in temporary files directory. in /usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/14599/htdocs/wp-admin/includes/class-wp-filesystem-ftpext.php on line 203
    Unable to locate WordPress directory.

    Installation Failed

(where xxxxxx is my dotster ftp id)

I get the concept of changing the permissions etc. (and on the other topics here it seems that permissions are often the problem with dotster.) But my issue is that i CANNOT, for the dear life of me, manage to locate the WP folders. I use FileZilla as FTP uploader, and i do have a webspace/siteapps path indeed.. but FileZilla shows it as empty. And i DID tick the “show hidden files” box as well.

One thing that worked, though, is that i created a WP theme through Yvo Schaap’s theme generator, uploaded it through wpadmin, and it seems to be installed in a /blog/ subdirectory on my domain. But the problem is that i DO NOT manage to find the /blog/ subdirectory either…

So.. thank you in advance to anyone who could help me solve the mystery !

(*) what i mean here, is that i did not go through the manual install method described here : https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/186249

  • your install is in the htdocs folder

    the problem is this
open_basedir restriction in effect. File(/tmp) is not within the allowed path(s):

ask your host where the tmp file needs to be located to get around the open base restriction so you can run auto upgrades and upload media

@samboll – Can you help with this error? (Dotster acct as well)

Warning: touch(): Unable to create file /usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/3122/htdocs/tmp/1249935845 because Permission denied in /usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/3122/htdocs/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 174 Warning: fileowner(): Stat failed for /usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/3122/htdocs/tmp/1249935845 (errno=2 – No such file or directory) in /usr/local/pem/vhosts/161920/webspace/siteapps/3122/htdocs/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 628 Warning: unlink(/usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/3122/htdocs/tmp/1249935845): No such file or directory in /usr/local/pem/vhosts/xxxxxx/webspace/siteapps/3122/htdocs/wp-admin/includes/file.php on line 630

Nevermind. I just moved them onto my servers. Problem solved.
