Link between translations lost

  • On some pages the links between the translations are lost.
    The first language is DE and translation EN and IT. Before I had also RU but it was to much to follow up all languages and I’m taking it out.
    Now I observe the following problem:
    The page in DE lost the link to EN and IT and I found a wrong featured image.
    The pages in EN and IT are correctly linked between each other and to DE.
    In the sample link you can switch from EN or IT to DE, but from DE is no link to EN and IT.
    I tried to add manually EN and IT in the language editor but the pages were not found. I tried also to insert the page IDs of the translated pages but had no result.
    I recovered then a page in RU from trash and tried to link it to the other languages. I found the correct pages in EN and IT, but I did not find the page in DE.

  • Same thing is happening to me. When I go to EN and select FR, it doesn’t change over to the FR page. It actually changes the EN url link to add fr/en/page and without saving, it uses that url. So I have to go back in and change the lang back to EN and the URL goes back to normal. I can edit the FR page on the front end via the Edit Page link in the WP menu bar at the top but the pages are linked.

    Hi,

    When I go to EN and select FR, it doesn’t change over to the FR page.

    When you are doing this, you are changing the language of the post you are currently editing. If you want to edit a translation, you need to click on the pen icon if the translation already exists or the + icon if it doesn’t exist yet.     As I received no answer, I started now to cancel the pages/posts which lost the link and rebuilt them.

    Hi Chouby, thank you for your reply. I’m aware of the Pencil Edit tool and + tool to add the translation page but there is no Pencil Edit Tool for FR anymore which does exist. I only see the + tool but the page exist. They’re just not linked anymore. The only way for me to edit the FR page is to go to the front end of the page and click on Edit Page in the WP top men bar. I’m afraid to click on the + tool in EN because it may override the FR page and I may lose that page. What to do?

    you can insert in the text field a part of the page title and get a drop down list with pages to select from. in my case, sometimes the translated page is there, sometimes not.
    In some cases I was able to rebuild the links between translations in this way.
    On one page, it happened to me that the link was lost again after 30 minutes. Really strange.
    With + you create a new linked page and this does not overwrite the existing page. What I did is to copy the complete content, slug and metadescription from the existing page to the new page. Then I delete the existing page – otherwise it’s not possible to save the new page with the same slug. If the page was registered in the navigation menu, you have to register the new page there.

    I’m having the same issue. I rebuilt all the translations from scratch,
    as sometimes i could get a drop down list, but sometimes it didn’t find anything.
    Now, 5 days later, some links to their translated version survived, ut some didn’t.

    I also noticed the string translations are scrumbled. Everything was still present, but not corresponding to the right fields.

    i’m using wordpress 5.2.2 using polylang 2.6.1., with polylang theme strings 4.0
