• I accepted the invitation to upgrade to version 2.8.1 and stopped to be sure the database was backed up, as the installer suggested I do.

I cannot access my blog, either as a user or as an administrator. Apparently the home page is corrupted and I don’t know what I must do to salvage what I have out there and get it back up and running.

    Any ideas?

  • What does the homepage say or do that makes you think it’s corrupted? That information can help us figure out what’s wrong and then help you fix it. ??

    Douglas,
Thanks for your response. You can try it yourself:

You should get the same blank page I do (and it says “blank” at the bottom.

Thanks for your help. I’m pretty frantic! ??

If there’s a way for me to attach it, I could send you a copy of my index.php page. (I think that’s the landing page, isn’t it? Maybe that would help. I can send you any of the files you need to look at because I do have ftp access to the site.

If you have access to your admin section then try deactivating all the plugins and switch to the default theme. If you can access your site after that then reactivate your original them and test the site again.

If all is ok then start reactivating your plugins one by one, checking if all is still working till you find the culprit. If you are using wp-cache plugin the deactivate that first to see if the problem corrects itself.

*It is very important to deactivate all plugins before you upgrade your installation*

Should you still continue to experience the problem then feel free to drop me a line at [email protected] and I’ll try to help more.

I’ve created a couple of duplicate “WordPress” folders on my site so I could experiment with them to try to troubleshoot the problem and have come to the conclusion that the most likely cause of the problem is that my database has become corrupted.

Is there any way to confirm that? And, more importantly, since I was on my way to doing my first database backup when it happened, is there any way to recover it?

I just answered my own question and was able to access the database through the phpmanager on my Web host’s site. I believe, since I was able to do so and move around within the database, that it may be intact after all.

So, I’m going to see if I can find the best way to back it up and then go from there….but where do I go from there? <g>

The first thing you want to do is check all your urls are what they should be. Secondly, if the plugins were the rout cause of the problem then data in your database related to them needs to be removed.

I sent you an email with a little bit more details, hope it helps.
