    Hi

First up, this may not be anything to do with your plugin, but I thought I’d ask because it’s currently got me baffled.

I added a new podcast a week or so ago and it didn’t flow through to iTunes. In my investigations, I found that I had the RSS limit turned on to 8. So I switched that to a much larger number. (That shouldn’t have stopped a new podcast from being added though, right? Just dropped the oldest one off the list.)

The situation I now have is a feed that contains 13 records (which is correct) when I examine it directly in a browser.

But if I pass the feed to, say, CastFeedValidator, it still only shows 8 records. And not the most recent one. This is the same situation in iTunes. The new episode simply isn’t showing up.

I assume it’s some kind of caching problem, maybe. But I’ve tried various methods of forcing a refresh and nothing budges it. And I don’t quite understand how it can be a caching problem if looking at the feed directly in a browser returns 13 episodes. Shouldn’t it be returning a cached version everywhere if that’s the problem?

If you have any ideas on what I should try next, I’d appreciate it. Because currently I’m baffled. Thanks.

  • Hello,

Check in the WordPress dashboard under Settings > Reading and you will see “Syndication feeds show the most recent : _ “. This controls the number of episodes displayed in your RSS feed that distributes your podcast to iTunes, etc.

Set that to the # of episodes you want to display in your feed, ensuring to go higher to accommodate future episodes. The number here may be set to 8 which is why you would not be seeing all of the episodes.

Take a look and let us know if that helps.

Hi. Thanks for replying. Yes, that was the first fix I found.

But as I said, changing that didn’t solve the problem. (And doesn’t explain why the most recent podcast didn’t come in and drop the ninth oldest one off in the first place.)

I still have the problem where viewing the feed in the browser shows all 13 episodes, but passing it to CastFeedValidator (and by extension, iTunes) still shows a feed that has only 8 episodes (episodes 5 to 12 inclusive). That’s the bit I don’t understand. Any further help would be appreciated.
