  • Hey @vipini,

The TOTP two-factor method is time sensitive. Can you please make sure your server/site time is in sync with your device? You can check your server/site time by navigating to WordPress Dashboard > Settings > General and checking your Local time.

Please let me know what you find.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

I’m running into the same problem. Time is definitely correct – set to New York and I’m here on the east coast in Delaware. Put in the new code I get on phone immediately and still get that same error message as Vipini

BTW, I tried disabling all my plugins but that did not make a diff.

    Same issue here.

Checked the server time from the shell, checked the PHP.ini time, general settings on WordPress. All say the correct time except for the 2fa activation screen which displays UTC as my server time.

Yep same here in the UK. I have access to the back end cpanel server and this is set correctly to my local time. WordPress general settings are also set correctly to local time. Wordfence thinks it’s an hour earlier however (UTC)….

Seems it’s a general issue, there are other posts like this… Maybe an issue with the new version? i’m using the free version (7.3.1) that just introduced 2FA.

    Hey All,

Thanks for the updates and sharing the extra information.

Can you please check Wordfence > Login Security for the current time being reported? It’s located at the bottom left side of the page as Server Time:. The time shown there is what your server is reporting as the current UTC time.

    Please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Gerroald

For me, Wordfence has Server Time: 2019-05-16 13:11:44 but actual time is 9:11am, and that is what WordPress is correctly displaying in the general settings.

    so any fix yet?

Update to version 7.3.2 rolled out earlier but still no fix to the server time issue.

Can we have any news on this issue ?

We have the same one there, the “Server Time” matches hosts time and the UTC time.

    Server Time: 2019-05-29 07:16:16
    Corrected Time: 2019-05-29 07:20:00

    Thanks,

Same here. Wordfence guys – any chance of correcting this?

Still the same issue. No resolution yet.

I’m pleased to report that I’ve now managed to successfully activate 2FA with my wordpress sites! WordFence has updated to v 7.3.3 overnight and the Server Time display is now different, meaning 2FA now works! Hooray, thank you WordFence! Screenshot below:

Over the last few updates we’ve included more time information (Wordfence > Login Security as well as Wordfence > Tools > Diagnostics > Time). Please let us know what you’re seeing there if you’re having continuing issues. If you are still having issues with time offset however, reaching out to your provider and having the time offset corrected if they are able to do so is the best way forward.
