CF7 is using server resources excessively

  • Hi there, one of our site stockhead.com.au has contact form 7 installed. I have been hosted on WPEngine. We have got an email from WPEngine that our site is using resources excessively and this needs to be sorted ASAP.

    In their log I found 2 files being executed a huge number of time (frequency : 24 Hours)

    6303 /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php
    1855 /wp-json/contact-form-7/v1/contact-forms/25315/refill

    6303 and 1855 is the number of times the files have been executed.

    Please let me know when this files gets executed and how to resolve this issue.

    /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

    This is an Ajax request endpoint WordPress uses. Contact Form 7 uses it in a very limited case so probably Contact Form 7 has nothing to do with most of those requests.

    /wp-json/contact-form-7/v1/contact-forms/25315/refill

    This is Contact Form 7’s form refreshing request that occurs only when necessary, such as in the case you use a page-cache plugin.

    In the first place, are you really sure WPEngine’s email is saying “There must be a plugin consuming resources severely”? It sounds to me just like “Congrats! Your sites have gained much popularity! Consider upgrading to an upper hosting plan today!”
