Add Menu Link E-mails to the list of encoded options

Great idea. Could you send me a screenshot of how you set up the mailto links in your menu?

I second this – I have a couple of clients with emails as custom links in menus so it would be a great addition.

@gjefle: Can you provide me with some more detail on how you’re using mailto links in menu items?

Basically I just add a custom link and instead of adding in a https://xxx url I use the mailto:xxx structure.

I’ll tackle that next week.

What about the actual menu item “label” or text. Will that be an email too, or just the link itself?

I guess the label could be but in general I use “signup” or “contact” if the client wants their emails in there. Some clients might also use the email and social links in the pre-footer as a menu.

The next version will encode emails in navigation menu items:

Until the version goes live, you can encode them yourself by adding this snippet:

add_filter(
    'walker_nav_menu_start_el',
    'eae_encode_emails',
    EAE_FILTER_PRIORITY
);
