The 500 error generally occurs when the PHP fileinfo extension is not enabled. You can use your hosting control panel, or directly in php.ini to enable it.

In my case, fileinfo extension is definitely enabled, and still the problem. Any other suggestions? Thanks!

+1 same issue with fileinfo enabled, PHP 7.2

New version of plugin, but only shows HTTP ERROR

Thank you. I have enabled php fileinfo and the 500 error went away.
However, I tried to upload an image for a Woocommerce Product as a test and it’s not working, please see:

I’m not sure if there’s anything else that I have to enable? or it should resize automatically?

This is a new image that I just uploaded for a test to a new product.

600 width Main image
300 Thumbnail
1:1

Please, confirm that you have enabled the plugin under WooCommerce > Smart Image Resize?
