Invalid Username (new user)

I just installed WP for the first time (to https://www.laurareaux.com/blog) yesterday. First I had unknowingly installed a very old version through my old host’s cpanel. I uninstalled and installed 2.8.3 through SimpleScripts in my new host’s cpanel, but it would still show up as the old WP. I went into phpMyAdmin and deleted the wp table, uninstalled and reinstalled… could not login when I reinstalled. I followed instructions for changing password in phpMyAdmin and made note of my username, and I’m still getting “Invalid Username” when trying to login. Can anyone help?
