Now that I’m using a security key to log in to my WP site, it works fine on my desktop. But it doesn’t work with my cell phone. So I’ve activated Google Authenticator for that purpose.

But is there any way to get my cell phone and security key to communicate with each other so I can use it to login to my site?

I’m adding an additional problem to my post above. Though I have activated the Authenticator as one of my accepted logins through the plugin, when I try to login the only option offered is the security key. It does not offer the Authenticator as a login option.

That means that I cannot login to my site via my cell phone at all. Is there any way to fix this?

@richards1052 You can choose a different authentication method during the login screen at the bottom of the login form as long as that user has the method available:

    Second factor options

FIDO U2F is currently supported only on Android mobile phones and the security keys that support U2F over NFC such as Yubikey 5 or Yubikey NFC.

For some reason, even after adding the authenticator method in settings and refreshing the browser, it didn’t offer the backup option on login…until I shut the computer down and then logged back on the next day. Then the backup method did appear.

The same thing happened when I first activated the security key in settings.

I’m not sure whether this is the behavior you intended; or whether my experience is caused by some setting of my own on my desktop.

I do have the Yubikey model you mentioned. But I can’t figure out how to activate it properly on my phone. Since the authenticator method is working for me, I’ll stick with that.
