according to my understanding, by law (in the U.S. at least), any email like those sent by Subscribe2 must contain a link to opt out of further emails

by default Subscribe2 emails do not contain this link

while the WP admin can obviously add it, this is something which should included by default IMO

this issue is tangentially related to this

with the Post Notif plugin a random generated link, like that used by many websites for such purposes, is provided to users for this purpose, as well as for the purpose of choosing what cats they want to sub to

the other problem with not providing unique, random generated links for non-registered users is that anyone can subscribe or unsubscribe anyone else

    the thinking here baffles me

The set up of Subscribe2 recommends you create a Page containing the shortcode to handle the subscription and unsubscription requests. The email notification template should indeed then be updated to include a link to that page.

The code could of course create a page for you but that’s not a very nice experience IMO, when a plugin automatically generated post content on installation.

Additionally, more direct unsubscribe links are available by default in the premium version of Subscribe2, Subscribe2 HTML.
