I was just wondering if instead of uploading a file to your site, can you place a soundcloud link in the Podcast file section?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @neoqueenhoneybee,

You don’t need to use the Seriously Simple Podcasting plugin with our Castos hosting service. However, the integration between the two is designed to make it easier for you to manage your podcast through your WordPress website while providing you the best possible performance for you site. Castos also provides additional features like more robust reporting tools, transcriptions and YouTube republishing. Let us know if you have any additional questions.

Hi, thank you for getting back to me, but I’m not sure how that answered my question about using a soundcloud link with the SSP plugin instead of uploading a file onto the site and using that link. I’m setting this up for a client and they use Soundcloud. They are not interested in any other hosting solution, not even on their website.

Soundcloud, tune in, spotifly, or google play, or apple podcast; these are what they use.

So back to my original question, is it possible to use an episode link from one of the above services in the podcast file section of the SSP plugin?

OR is it possible to have a post show up if there is nothing in the file section so they can just embed the podcast? (Currently the podcast will not show on the main page if it does not have a link/file in that field.)

    Hi, @neoqueenhoneybee,

It’s possible. Try uploading your audios to archive.org, and then use the URL they give you to the MP3 file. ??

(Soundcloud sucks at hosting podcasts, BTW. And SSP solves that problem.)

We’ve seen issues with using archive.org as well, but if it’s working for you that’s fine. And yes, Soundcloud makes it difficult to link directly to a media file. Best, and most reliable, bet is to use a dedicated media hosting platform of some kind. Or a block storage tool like Digital Ocean spaces or AWS S3….or Castos! ??
