• How do I set a video as home header? I cannot find it in Theme Options as it had in Pinnacle.
An embed video would work too, but this functionality doesn’t seem to work at all (youtube or external sites yes, but if I link an uploaded mp4/avi/flv/whatever it just doesn’t show up and I just want a clean video without youtube controls and the like).

I set an avi I uploaded to my media lib as an embed here, but it doesn’t show up. It only shows poster image. Doesn’t work as page title bg either. https://liviabudai.com/home/

    https://liviabudai.com/cover1.mp4 is an mp4 option

    Hey,
Sorry for the delay! The premium version of Ascend allows you to set a video background in your header using the Kadence Slider, but that is not available in the free version. You can add a video to the top of the content area of your site. Is that something that would work for you?

Hey! It would work if it worked ?? this is what I was trying to do via embed video block but failed. I’m not sure what am I doing wrong here, tried with avi, flv and mp4.
Youtube embed works but isn’t what I’m after, I would like to have a clean video.

Sorry for the delay! Have you tried inserting from URL in the video block? What happens when it fails? Are you getting an error message?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5BI1CaB2lco&feature=youtu.be here is what happens. The video just simply never appears. I tried to turn Adblock off, but to no avail. Link is correct. Same happens if I insert the very same video from the media library or any other previously uploaded video via link.

    Inspect>Sources says:

    https://liviabudai.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/cover-1_xvid.avi
Failed to load resource: the server responded with a status of 404 (Not Found)

Why failed? The file IS THERE…

    Hey,
It’s likely that your server is blocking access to the file, either because it’s an avi file or because the permissions are wrong.

Either way, you should not use .avi files for web. You need to convert to an .mp4 file.

I just used avi in this example because it was smaller than 8mb and I could upload it directly to the media library (I thought it will maybe fix the issue).

My first choice was mp4, but it behaves exactly in the same way (also if uploaded to a different path, not wp-content).
I could upload to google drive or the like, but it won’t give me exact file url…

edit: hang on, something works that didn’t before. Let me quickly test it again and get back to you

Ok now it works (I swear I did it exactly the same way before with an mp4…).
Now I have a question, is there a way to avoid the black screen popping up between poster image appears and the video (which starts with the same screen) begins?

    (@hannahritner)

Could you send a screenshot of what you’re referencing?

https://youtu.be/duVcEnJobnc this is what happens, the static picture appears as expected, but before the video starts there’s a black screen.

    hannah

    (@hannahritner)

The black screen is what I’m not seeing. Is it after youtube has opened? Can you send a screenshot? https://imgbb.com/

Make sure to set the video to mute, many browsers will block autoplay if it’s not muted (even if the video has no sound).

    Ben

I suggest you compress your video:

    https://www.youcompress.com/

It’s very large and uncompressed right now causing loading issues.

    Thanks for the tips!
Black screen only appears on chrome and only when I am logged onto the site, interestingly.
I tried on other browser and it just proceeded to play.
Without being logged in on chrome, it wouldn’t play (probably because of the mute setting that Ben appointed) even with adblock off.

What size should I aim for? I’m going to make it a bit shorter anyway so I can just use lower settings in Premiere for hopefully better quality than an online compressor.

I find online compressors to be pretty good, certainly worth trying a few. I suggest smaller than 8mb.
