    Hello ,
I am currently developing a WordPress theme to place it on the WordPress Theme Directory. I want to add to my theme: CPT, custom taxonomy, meta boxes …

according to the criteria of the Official Theme Directory guidelines:
can I add them to my theme , or do I have to create a plugin and ask users to install it?

    thank you

  • Sounds like you read the guidelines already and know that those are not allowed in themes in the WordPress repository.
Themes are for displaying existing content, regardless of what it is, not creating it or its taxonomies and custom fields.

The biggest reason for this is so that the user is not locked in to one theme. The user should be able to switch themes at any time, including from the front end (via theme switcher plugin).

I understand, it’s clear to me now.

Moved to Everything else WordPress, this is not a Developing with WordPress topic. You are asking a process question for the theme repository here.
