Feeds applying categories on it’s own?

    Something I’m noticing is that the RSS are sometimes automatically assigning themselves to categories (various page boxes are checked off, probably based on their tags).

    There are no tags in RSS and Atom feeds – only the categories. The plugin can use these categories to generate WordPress tags. However the category won’t be created if it’s not listed in the RSS feed. Please look at the standard feed structure: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RSS#RSS_compared_with_Atom

    It is quite perplexing. For example – There are 150+ RSS Feed posts assigned the category ENERGY when none of them were assigned by us. Some of these RSS feed posts have multiple categories auto assigned to them.

    This post – In the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, efforts to rebuild Puerto Rico’s electrical system offer lessons for boosting energy security

    The categories already checked off are:
    Energy
    Adaptation
    DailyClimate_RSS
    News_Archive
    Politics

    How can this be? I can share admin details with you if required?

    I had installed a plugin called WPeMatico RSS Feed reader few weeks ago but then deleted it almost the same day. I checked my plugins folder etc., it is fully deleted. Just thought should let you know.
