Expire or archive a post

I use WordPress for a neighborhood blog. Some posts are relevant for a much longer period of time than others. I don’t want to just delete the posts related to items that have been resolved but I would like to get them off the front page. Is there any plug in or other mechanism that would let me tag a post as expired so that it shows up in the archive list or in its category listing but not on the front page?
