• I have WordPress running on a windows server. The installation has been working correctly for about a month, but a few days ago I noticed that I could not follow permalinks to pages on my site anymore without getting “404 – File or directory not found.” and I also cannot create new pages.

Yes I tried resaving the permalinks but it did not fix anything.

I checked the site health checkup and there are two critical issues:

    2 Critical issues:
    1. Severely outdated SQL server
    2. Background updates are not working as expected

I cannot figure out the problem here… Could either of those things cause the permalinks to stop working and prevent the creation of new pages?

  • I don’t see either of those issues preventing the issues you’re having. Have you checked your web.config file in the root directory to ensure no changes happened there in regards to the 404 errors.

What error/message are you getting when trying to create a new page? Is it for pages only or does it happen for posts as well? Are there any other issues while trying to navigate in the admin dashboard that you’ve noticed?
