• Hi, I just found out that my site is not displaying and functioning properly for internet explorer users. Unfortunately i’m on a mac without parallel and can’t install a recent version of internet explorer to see what the problem itself is. I use safari and firefox to view my site so i’ve never noticed these issues. my site is https://www.cinemahaven.com any hep would be greatly appreciated. When visitors click on entries to see the video the page they are taken to displays everything but the video itself but it shows up in firefox and safari.

  • The videos do not work in IE8 or in FF. The box opens correctly but they do not play. What format are you using?

There are errors also that may contribute to the problem, https://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3a%2f%2fwww.cinemahaven.com%2f

I had a similar problem yesterday when my site was showing up well on the Mac but looked like a dogs dinner on a PC laptop when I tried to view it in various versions of I.E, though Firefox was fine. Just like in your case though the video was missing.

I solved the problem by accident when I installed a plugin for youtube videos called smart youtube. After installation you just insert the normal line of coding from youtube for that page and instead of https:// you write httpv://

That did the trick for me but I should mention that I just tried your site on my Mac for comparison sake using the latest version of Safari and it doesn’t work there either. On the PC I see a blank square with a red cross, but on the Mac I see a QuickTime symbol but no video. I think you may well need some kind of plugin for video embeds.

BTW yesterday was my first day with wordpress so no doubt more expert voices will be able to offer better advice.

How do I go about fixing that? The movie format is Divx do you have the codec installed?

    @ashleykaryl
    I use videoswiper for wordpress.

I have someone testing it out in windows without divx (issues) and now they are installing the divx player to see if that fixes the issue.

On the end of the validator..can you direct me as how I can fix that.

The downloaded video file is not a DivX file – this error from FF and then it takes much to long to load the advertisement. This is after clicking on the post title. The thumbnail does not work.

In IE8 your link produces an unable to connect to server error, https://stream.divxstage.net/ihUJbNPJoDuhxZ4GGvOi.avi?8870706d6e17b351bc49a2705b1bce4f63bce984243ae59f1ab3a46ebdf881088483f0f07d00d828&ec_rate=160 or a 403 error.

I did install the codex both on FF and on IE but, the average viewer will not do this. If it is not click and play, they will go somewhere else.

As for correcting mistakes. These are html errors introduced when you add copy or movies or text or whatever. Look at the validator and read the error message, then go to your site and find the area that validator is pointing out. Widgets, header.php, footer.php, posts – all are places where you can introduce errors.

I tested it on leopard just now without the codec and had that problem, after i installed the codec I did not have this issue. Did you have the same result?
I understand most visitors won’t install, i’m working on auto detecting whether the plugin already exists in the users computer when they visit. If not they will be recommneded a download of the codec. Hopefully they’ll install it…i’ve put too many divx files up to go back and change it at this point.

Yes, I did install DivX and it did not clear up the problem. The only difference was in FF where now clicking on the link shows the divX logo. It did not before. Windows still cannot connect the server.

For your links in WP it is better to use full path links. That is most likely why it works on your computer and not on others.

How would I go about changing thing to full path links?

@kmessinger sorry i didn’t say this sooner thanks for all your help

The text editor in your dashboard area will show the link when you highlight the link. That is where to change it.

You are welcome for the help. In many cases here it is the the blind leading the blind.

Great, but which of the editors, appearance, post edit, plugin edit?

Most of your links are in the posts. So go to dashboard, posts, edt and change them. BTW, some of the links are to pages. AFAIK, for a video to play, the link has to be to the video file itself.

The problem is that i’m not hosting the file myself, so i’m just taking embed codes from elsewhere and posting it using video swiper. so changing the link to the file itself leads to another website.

If the link is not to the image file itself, it will never work. Even code that embeds links to the file itself.

I’m just using the same embed code that you would with youtube..that’s all i’m putting in.
