SPAM Registrations even though google Recaptcha is enabled

  • Despite all my efforts with enabling Google Recaptcha extension in Ultimate Member, I continue to get 3-5 spam registrations per day. I have added the domains that are generating spam to the blocked email address (see below) and despite this, there are registrations, WITH THESE BLOCKED DOMAINS still getting through. It seems that UM settings are just being ignored. I have seen other posts for this that have since been closed with the same problem:

    I have enabled recaptcha on the UM registration, UM login, and UM password reset. I found other posts about redirecting the WP login to the UM and that occurs, so I don’t think that they are registering directly through WordPress.

    I really wish UM would get their act together. I have had so many issues with this one plugin. Can someone help??

    Hi @mckeem1,

    What version of the ReCaptcha extension you have installed on your site?
    Please try to install the latest version of the reCaptcha plugin
    https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/um-recaptcha/
    Have you unchecked “Membership – Anyone can register” in Settings -> General section?

    Hi – thanks for getting back to me. I have unchecked Membership – Anyone can register. That is not the problem. They still come through. The version I have is 2.1.1

    I will uninstall and reinstall from the link and let you know.

    That didn’t work. This morning, two more spam registrations:

    *@zero.discopied.com
    *@that.milltrill.com

    Nothing is stopping the registrations. This despite the fact the milltrill.com was on my blocked list (see above). It is as if the registrations are bypassing some step and I can’t figure out what is going on.

    What are next steps? any ideas?

    Can you please try to install WP Bruiser plugin which is compatible with Ultimate member and see if it helps.

    Have it installed and I turned on protection for all the UM forms in the settings. I will let you know.

    Do I need to keep recaptch on? Any conflicts with it being enabled alongside this plugin?

    that seemed to work – none have come in overnight (which is a record). So my question is – why do we need a separate blocker although UM has functioning inside the plugin that is supposed to block spam registrations, such as ability to block emails and google recaptcha. Are you guys going to address this within the plugin or do we need to find additional plugins as problems like this pop up?

    Heya! Do you still have issues with spam registrations? I have the exact same problem even after installing WP Bruiser. So weird!
