    All of a sudden 2 days ago, several of my posts are not showing the meta description on Google. It is showing a bunch of mumbo jumbo taken from the content. I have been using Yoast for nearly 3 years and have never had this happen before. I always make sure I have the green light before publishing.

    Please advise as this is happening on multiple posts.

    Hi @40andholding,

    I’ve inspected the source of your URL and found that the generated HTML is missing some double quotation marks (“).

    That being said, your tags are currently like this:
    <meta name=description content="...">
    It should be like this:
    <meta name="description" content="...">

    The missing double quotation marks around description (but also for most other tags) are causing this snippet to be invalid. If you are using any caching/minifying plugins, please turn them off temporarily and check the source again to see if the double quotation marks are back.

    Google is showing a text snippet from the content because it cannot find a valid meta description tag.

    Were you able to find out what is causing this issue? If not, we recommend performing a conflict check as in this guide to find out if the issue persists when Yoast SEO is the only plugin active.

    We are looking forward to hearing from you.

    Hi,

    Thank you. I am using Total Cache plugin. I disabled it as you suggested and it does appear the quotes are back in the source code now. Just wondering why all of a sudden that started happening? I have been using that plugin for a while now.

    Also, do you have any idea what plugin I could use similar to Total Cache that would not cause a conflict?

    Thank you.

    Hi @40andholding,

    Thanks for letting us know. It might be a new bug on their end. If you are already using the latest version of W3 Total Cache, I recommend contacting them and let them know of this error.

    If there’s indeed an incompatibility between W3 Total Cache and Yoast SEO, I’m confident they will be happy to fix it (thus you wouldn’t have to switch to a different plugin).

    You can find a list of recommended site speed tools here, including 2 caching plugins.
