Email encoder 2.0.2 (Ironikus) doesn’t work properly with plugin Social Media Follow Button (Space X-Chimp). Email-Adresses are not encoded and display fragments of html code.

    What is the problem?

    Thanks for a feedback.

Hey @13ti – thanks for your message.
I gave it a try with the plugin and I couldn’t reproduce the issue.
Can you please share some more information on what the issue looks like and on what elements it appears?
    Thanks already in advance.

    thanks for your replay.
the affected website is https://abruesten.jetzt/. I’m using the plugin Social Media Follow Button (Space X-Chimp) in the right widgets to show the follow me buttons (“Folge uns auf …”). The pic https://abruesten.jetzt/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/browser-withAdminLogin-other-emailAdresses-encoded-email-active-emailEncoder-deactivated.jpg shows, how it should looks like. But in this case the Email Encoder is disabled.
If I enable Email Encoder the Social Media Email Button has additional html-code fragments, as you can see in https://abruesten.jetzt/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/browser-withAdminLogin-other-emailAdresses-encoded-email-active.jpg
    the
I configured the Social Media Email Button Link with and without mailto, e.g. “mailto:[email protected]” and “[email protected]”. The difference in the frontend was first with mailto two green locks were displayed without mailto only one.

Can I configure Email Encoder not to encode emails in this specific widget? This is a public Email-Adresse, so it will be okay for me.

May be I should address this issue to Space X-Chimp?

    Thanks for an feedback.

Hey @13ti – thanks for the reply.
I think we should be able to solve this issue simply by deactivating the button “Mark emails on the site as successfully encoded”.
You will find this button on the admin settings page of this plugin.

    What happens:
Sometimes, our plugin can’t detect certain areas if they contain complex html around or not. That’s why we included this option since sometimes it is possible that this message also breaks the layout.

How you can test that without changing the settings:
If this might be the issue, you can also test it the following way:
    1. Activate the checkbox to show emails as successfully encoded.
    2. If you see them encoded and you also see the layout breaks, simply check the website without being logged in.
    3. If the website looks fine without being logged in, you know that it is because of the display of the “Successfuly encoded”-icon

The icon is only visible for logged in admins, so your user within the frontend will never face this issue.

If the issue persists also after these tests, please let me know – i will then make some further debugging. ??

    Hey @ironikus
thank for your explanetion, this I had tested earlier and it doesn’t solve the problem. But I tested again with several other possibilities and different disabled checkboxes.

But could not found any solution, except to disable Email in the Social Media Buttons.

May be I should ask Space X-Chimp because I make also some other tests in this widget, see the sreenshot https://abruesten.jetzt/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/mailto-on-website-icon.jpg

First I tested, if Email Encoder works fine in a widget for a plain email addresse and for an icon with the mailto link. Both works.
Than I linkt in the Social Media Buttons for Website with mailto:[email protected] and here all works as exspected. The button is link to an email and it is encoded.

    What do you think?

    Hey @ironikus
I don’t know why, but after my test with the email at the website icon I tried again to use the email icon for emails and surprisingly it works. So I think no further support is necessary. Thank you for your help.
