using Connections Business Directory with visual composer

You find an order_by shortcode option which are comparable to orderby and order.

Connections does not have a columnar layout by default, you may wish to look at a few premium templates which do. Here are the links to some:

The column number is not directly controllable since the columns will depend on the content width of the theme. But, you can control the pagination. The default is 20 per page.
